In the region of Bourg-Achard, department of Eure, the 144 riders of this 37th edition will started the Grand depart of stage 1. The stage was to take in 143 km towards the seaside and the famous cliffs of Étretat before descending into the industrial city of Gonfreville-l'Orcher. An unprecedented stage that will make time gaps quickly on GC since the arrival will be located at the top of a 10% difficulty climb.
Mark Stewart reports "Wind threatened all day, which made the bunch nervous, unfortunately two of our riders, Sean and Matthew got caught in a crash, and with the high pace never managed to get back on. The bunch got whittled down every time on the three laps of the climb up to the finish, the 2nd last time up the climb was decisive with, Kasper making the selective front group, Mark making the 2nd group and Scott making the 3rd group.
Anthony Delaplace (Fortuneo - Vital Concept) won the stage holding off fellow Frenchman Justin Mottier. Przemyslaw Kasperkiewicz riding into a strong 20th position, 54 seconds back.
Tomorrow the race continues with 148km between Neufchâtel-en-Bray and Forges-les-Eaux.
